How do I declare as a DAAAS major/minor?
  • Schedule a meeting with the DAAAS SSO - Ashante Johnson (ashantej [at] stanford.edu (ashantej[at]stanford[dot]edu)) to discuss pathway options.
  • Fill out major/minor form
  • Declare in Axess
What if I took a class I think would towards my degree, but it doesn’t have an AFRICAAM course number?
  • If it’s crosslisted, it will automatically count towards your unit count
  • If it’s not, you can fill out the course petition form
How do I enroll in an Independent Study?
  • Find an approved faculty member from affiliated faculty list to agree to your proposed work
  • Create a proposal

  • Send proposal to DAAAS Director of Undergraduate Studies - Dr. Kimberly McNair (mcnairk [at] stanford.edu (mcnairk[at]stanford[dot]edu)) and DAAAS SSO
I wanted to study abroad, what courses count?
  • Any courses from South Africa or Ghana or Morroco will automatically count. For any other locations, if you can prove that the course focused on African and African American Studies, whether that’s course content or your personal studies, we can accept it.
